Ladipo market in Mushin LGA was hit by the fire on Saturday with goods and properties left in ruins

- Preliminary report by LASEMA claimed that the fire started at a mattress shop before escalating to close stores

It was a scene of monumental loss on Saturday, August 1, as fire outbreak hit popular Ladipo market in Mushin local government area of Lagos state with many goods left in ruins as traders ran for safety.

According to preliminary reports, the fire outbreak started at a mattress shop located at number 16 before escalating to the other closely adjoining shops.

Confirming the development, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) in a statement by its director-general Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the fire occurred around 1pm.

Oke-Osanyintolu said LASEMA received a distress call from people about the outbreak, adding that closely located buildings have proven to be a challenge for curtailing the spread of the fire.

"There have been severe operational challenges due to huge crowds who have failed to comply with authorities and maintain appropriate distance for responders to work freely.

The spread has been stopped and the operation is ongoing to fully extinguish the flames and determine the root cause," part of the statement released by LASEMA read.

Legit.ng notes that fire incidents have been recorded in Lagos major market recently. On Saturday, May 29, what looked like a tragedy was averted as a fire outbreak hit Olaleye market in Shomolu area of the state at midnight, leaving owners of shops and stalls in palpable panic.

The cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained but LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, through a statement said it took men of the service more than two hours to bring the raging fire under control.

Similarly, On Saturday, January 25, Amu timbre market in the Olorunshogo area of Mushin, Lagos state has been gutted by fire.

Many goods and properties were destroyed in the fire that reportedly started at in the early hours of Saturday.

The cause of the fire was unknown. Also, no casualty was reported yet. According to several Twitter users who have been sharing photos and videos, the market has been burning for several hours.
