The Northeast Governors Forum Have Commended The Effort Of The Federal Government Of Nigeria In The Fight Against The Insurgency.
The Forum which is made up of the Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe,Taraba and Yobe States stated this in a communique after its second meeting In Maiduguri, Borno State capital.
The meeting among other things discussed the challenges facing the sub-region and made some resolutions. The communique was read by the forum’s newly elected chairman, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State.
The North-east Governors’ forum calls on Nigeria’s Federal Government to ensure the deployment of State of the art military hardware to the region.
The forum also recommended that the police be Allowed to carry state of the art weapons where necessary and be provided with strategic equipment like high velocity tear gas, trackers and armoured personnel carriers, APC, to bridge the manpower deficit In the Nigerian armed forces.
The North-east Governor’s forum also called on the Federal ministry of water resources to ensure the recharging of the lake chad from National water bodies.
The forum pledges to work together to foster regional integration, growth and development, especially in the exploitation of its oil and gas potentials, mineral resources, agriculture and industrialisation.
It also urged the Federal Government to revoke road contracts awarded for years without progress, and re-award them to more competent contractors and appealed to the Federal Government to ensure local content in the execution of the Mambila Hydro electric power project and other programmes of the North east development commission.
The forum also expressed its commitment to the activities of the board of the North east development commission and agreed to work together in producing strategic master plan that will ensure sustainable development.
The North-east Governor’s forum affirms Its commitment to strengthening both Islamic and western education, as well as stopping street begging.
