Following Monday’s gruesome attack on Ukpogo-Edikwu community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State that claimed 13 persons with several others still missing, residents have called on the Federal and State Governments to immediately constitute a panel of enquiry to nip the perennial incident in the bud.
Some of the residents who spoke to ait.live say they initially wrote to the State Government rejecting the person representing them in the traditional council but it turned a deaf ear leading to the ceaseless unrest.
About a week after the attack with sporadic gun shots and burning of houses, several people are still unaccounted for. The worrisome series of attacks the residents say emanated from a chieftancy tussle.
While residents of the community urge government to act speedily to contain the situation, the State Governor Samuel Ortom did not hesitate to suspend the 2 major contenders of the contentious traditional stool for complicity.
While both contenders stand suspended what is left of the troubled community is fear, hunger, displacement and grief but the hope that those still missing will return home soon.
